Getting Around Campus

Campus Maps

If you are not sure how to get around campus or where certain buildings or offices are, try these links from the SDSU web site:

  1. To find a specific location/building on campus maps click here. (There is also a menu of maps on this page as well as a link to a printable map of campus.)
  2. For a large detailed map of campus click here.
  3. Where the Housing/REO office is located relative to campus click here.
Classroom Buldings

According to the SDSU campus map page there are over 40 academic/classroom buildings on campus. You can familiarize yourself with some of them by looking over the different maps of campus, however, some of the most frequently asked questions are related to the following buildings:

  1. Storm Hall -- The furthest building from the East Residential Campus (Cuic, LLC, Tenochca and Zura).
  2. Business Administration -- The most popular major at SDSU is business and the building is hidden behind Student Services East and West.
  3. Love Library -- It's in the middle of campus and you can't miss it, but that won't stop people from asking.
Administration Buildings

The two buildings you will personally need to know are:

  1. Gateway Center -- Human Resources is located on the 4th floor. It's across the street from Student Health Services. Do not go into the Campanile Dr. entrance, walk around the corner to the Hardy Avenue entrance.
  2. Administration -- Actually, now that Human Resources has moved, you may never have a reason to go here, but at least you'll know where it's at.
  3. Aztec Center -- The card center is located in the courtyard on the bottom floor. This is where you will go for your RED ID card and your staff ID.
Student Services

The Student Services East and Student Services West buildings are home to all but a few of the departments in the Division of Student Affairs. Student services offices that cannot be found in Student Services East or West include Housing/REO, Student Health Services, and the International Student Center. Go to the web page for the Division of Student Affairs for a complete list of student services departments.

Entertainment If you are ever bored, just remember that there is plenty of things to do right here on campus! There is a variety of venues for concerts, theatre, sports and leisure.

Concerts

Tickets for concerts can be bought on campus at the ticket office in the Aztec Center next to STA Travel.

  1. Cox Arena (next to the ARC) -- Built in 1997, Cox Arena is home to several concerts and Aztec basketball games throughout the year. Past performers have included the Beastie Boys, Elton John, Prince and Veggie Tales.
  2. Open Air Theatre -- Does not attract major tours like Cox Arena, but is a nice open air venue to see a concert. Past performers have included David Gray, The Dan Band, Megadeth and Carlos Vives. Click here for location.

Theatre

  1. School of Theatre -- Students in the School of Theatre put on several productions throughout the year in the 500 seat Don Powell Theatre and the smaller 175 seat Experimental Theatre. Both theatres are located on campus along Campanile Walkway.

Sports

For complete schedules of SDSU athletic teams and events, go to the Official Site of San Diego State Athletics.

  1. Cox Arena -- Home to Aztec basketball in the spring.
  2. Tony Gwynn Stadium -- Home to Aztec baseball in the spring and the minor league baseball team San Diego Surfdawgs in the summer.

Leisure

  1. ARC -- The Aztec Recreation Center is free to RHC's during the school year and has plenty to keep you busy and sweating! There are two rooms for weights and several aerobic bikes, stairclimbers and treadmills. There is also a climbing wall, basketball courts and small gyms for aerobic and dance classes.
  2. Bowling -- There is a bowling alley located in the courtyard on the bottom floor of Aztec Center. As a staff member you are allowed five free games of bowling everyday. If you enjoy bowling that much then you have definitely come to the right place!
Parking

Yes, parking is an issue at SDSU. SDSU has a lot of commuter students and there is a lot of competition for spots during the day. The nice thing is that there are spaces set aside for you no matter what hall you live in!

Getting a permit

Parking costs $24 per month and can be electronically debited from your paycheck. Go to Cashiering Services on the 2nd floor of Student Services West and tell them that you are PERMANENT staff and would like to have parking electronically debited. You can get a bumper sticker or a laminated permit for your dash.

IMPORTANT: After you get a permit, get a housing staff sticker from Jessica McDonald. If you don't put one on your pass you will be ticketed if you park in a specially marked housing space.

Where to Park

If you live in Cuic, the LLC, Tenochca or Zura park in the HRLO or faculty/staff parking spaces in Parking Structure 3. There are also two hidden spaces next to the LLC by one of the bike barns.

If you live in Chapultepec, University Towers or Villa Alvarado, there are spaces set aside in the front of each building's lot.

Paying a ticket

If you do get a ticket, you can pick up appeal forms at the Parking Office, which is next to University Police on the ground level of Student Services East. If you want to pay the ticket, simply go to Cashiering Services.
