Alcohol and Other Drug Risk Reduction

For many students lifelong risk behaviors related to alcohol and other drugs begin in college. More college students will die from alcohol related deaths than will ever attend graduate school and more college students spend more on alcohol than books. Education alone is not enough. We also must (1) assist in changing community norms, (2) holding students accountable, and (3) providing alternative activities, such as social programs!.

Programs should focus on:

  • Episodic heavy drinking
  • Driving under the influence
  • Inhalants
  • Cocaine and Crack
  • Steroid Use
  • Hallucinogenics
  • Tobacco use, including smokeless tobacco
